Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Shingirirai Lincoln Masunda trained as an auditor & fraud analyst for noe of the big 4 accountancy practices. However, his true passions are in creative writing - with a primary focus on modern African society, particularly issues affecting youth culture. Shingirirai adopts an unorthodox approach to social customs, always questioning ethos and tradition Imagine Ghosts Telling Tales in front of Smoky Mirrors is a fresh voice in African magical realism.
S R McGLYNN
Scottish based writer, Rosie was awarded a 'Commended' accolade in the 2016 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for her work 'Journey to Everywhere: Seventy Soviet Years in a Day' - which was included in the anthology Journey through Uncertainty & other short stories. Rosie gained a degree in Russian from Leeds University, and has spent time living and travelling abroad. Currently a full time carer for an elderly relative - Rosie uses the time this affords her to write fiction, poetry and enter writing competitions.
GABRIELLE MULLARKEY
UK journalist and author, Gabrielle was awarded a 'Commended' accolade in the 2015 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for her work 'No Dogs Allowed' - which was included in the anthology Last Call & other short stories. Gabrielle gained an English degree from London University, holds an MSc in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes, and is a member of Lapidus - the writing fo wellbeing organisiation. Gabrielle has also written two novels - A Tale of Two Sisters and Hush Hush
ETHAN NORTH
UK writer, H C Johnston, writing as Ethan North, was awarded a 'Highly Commended' accolade in the 2017 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for her work 'Signature Dish' - which was included in the anthology Tasting Notes & other short stories. H C read English at Oxford University and holds qualifications in Statistics and Economics. A full member of the Writer's Guild, HC has trained in writing for theatre and TV/Film. She runs creative writing seminars in partnership with her local council library service and cites her interests as probability theory, behavioural economics and ancient history.
GEORGE OLIVER
George was awarded a 'Commended' accolade in the 2019 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for his work 'NewThink' - which was included in the anthology Zawadi & other short stories. A PhD Candidate at King's College, London, his thesis explores post-postmodernism in the work of Jonathan Franzen, Zadie Smith & David Foster Wallace.
MATTHEW REARDON
French/Canadian lawyer and writer, Matthew was awarded a 'Commended' accolade in the 2017 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for his work 'The Terrior from Beyond' - which was included in the anthology Tasting Notes & other short stories. Having had short fiction published in Retro Future magazine and Story Seed Vault, he is currently working on a novel.
SIMON ROWE
Originally from New Zealand, and now teaching in Japa, Simon was awarded a 'Highly Commended' accolade in the 2019 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for his work 'Night Fishing' - which was included in the anthology Zawadi & other short stories. When not writing short fiction, he blogs about life in a traditional Japanese neighbourhood.
JULIET ROBINSON
Edinburgh born Juliet was awarded a 'Commended' accolade in the 2015 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for her work 'The Chase' - which was included in the anthology Last Call & other short stories. Juliet moved to the United Arab Emirates with her husband. New to writing, Juliet admits to bouts of writer's block - but taking care of her two rescue dogs keeps her from becoming a writing hermit.
ANDREW SELLORS
UK writer Andrew Sellors was awarded a 'Commended' accolade in the 2019 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for his work 'Causa Mortis' - which was included in the anthology Zawadi & other short stories. Andrew draws from experience in various diverse occupations - farmer, painter, postman - to craft a rich palette of characters and plots for his fiction.
JONATHAN SHER
Israel born Jonathan Sher was a prize-winner in the 2019 Ouen Press Short Story Competition when he was awarded a 'Runner-up' place for his work 'Removed' - which was included in the anthology Zawadi & other short stories. Jonathan spent the last semester of his bachelor's degree at Sciences Po in Paris on an Erasmus Scholarship, and gained his BA in Humanities from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2019.
JILL SIEBERS
New York city based writer, Jill was awarded a 'Highly Commended' accolade in the 2015 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for her work 'Lion's Tooth' - which was included in the anthology Tasting Notes & other short stories. Jill earned a BA in Philosophy and French Literature, and studied Cordon Bleu in Paris. Her poems have appeared in Poetica, the Examined Life Journal and Switched-on Gutenberg. With a long commitment to children's education, Jill volunteers for the Pajama Programme.
EMMA SMITH
Eire based business writer and housewife, Emma was the overrall winner in the 2016 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for her work 'Journey through Uncertainty' - which is the title story in the anthology Journey through Uncertainty & other short stories. Emma has gathered two Master of Arts degrees, helped along by her ability to write and write. After many years of business writing and online editing, Emma is now focusing on her own creative work.
LINDA TYLER
Linda was awarded a 'Commended' accolade in the 2015 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for her work 'Winter Solstice' - which was included in the anthology Last Call & other short stories. After a career as a Law lecturer, Linda has settled in Kincardineshire, Scotland to run a self-catering holiday business with her husband. Linda's writing successes include a 'Highly Commended' submission to the 2015 Winchester Festival crime writing competition.
REKHA VALLIAPPAN
Former college lecturer and writer/editor, Rekha was awarded a 'Commended' accolade in the 2017 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for her work 'Written in the Stars' - which was included in the anthology Tasting Notes & other short stories. She has seen her work published in numerous anthologies and named in Best of Fiction lists. With an MA in English from the University of Madras, and an LLB from teh University of London, Rekha writes speculative fiction, with Asia being her inspiration.
SHAHZODA VAREBERG
LA based, Shahzoda, writer and aspiring filmmaker was awarded a 'Highly Commended' accolade in the 2017 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for her work 'Synaesthesia:A Taste for Art' - which was included in the anthology Tasting Notes & other short stories. She has received numerous awards including the MidWest Student Emmy Award and an emerging writers award from MSUM.
STEVE WADE
Dublin based English teach3r and writer Steve Wade was awarded a 'Commended' accolade in the 2019 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for his work 'Last Refuge' - which was included in the anthology Zawadi & other short stories. Steve's award winning short fiction has been widely published and anthologised.
ALAN WILKINSON
After a degree in American Studies, and an MA in Creative Writing from the UEA, Alan was appointed Jack Kerouac Writer in Residence in Florida. But his great love has always been teh American West, where he has explored the wilderness on foot, on horseback, by bike and canoe. An it was a Fellowship at the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos, New Mexico that afforded Alan the space and time needed to complete his most recent novel. Cody, The Medicine Man & Me.
F S WILLIAMS
Sarah Williams lives in Krakow, Poland - where she teaches English and French. Under the pen name F S Williams, she was awarded a 'Highly Commended' accolade in the 2019 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for her work 'The Violin of Buenos Aires - Ernesto' - which was included in the anthology Zawadi & other short stories. Having travelled widely, Sarah uses many cultural influences to inform her short fiction and novels.
KATY WIMHURST
UK based writer Katy was awarded a 'Highly Commended' accolade in the 2017 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for her work 'The Colour of Dulton' - which was included in the anthology Tasting Notes & other short stories. Katy read social anthropology at Cambridge University, befor studying for a PhD in Mexican Surrealism. Her fiction and non-fiction work has been published widely and she is the winner of the Earlyworks Short Story Prize 2017 and the Tate Modern short story competition. Kay says she has a soft spot for myth, magic, mongrels and mudflats.
